The first number 1 of the world was the Welsh player Ray Reardon, who held the position since the season of 1975/76 until the 1982/83. The canadian Cliff Thorburn interrupted Reardon's reign in the season 1981/82. England had its first issue 1 with Steve Davis, who dominated the circuit for the next several years, rising to the top spot during the seasons 1983-84-85-86-87-88-89 Y 90.

In the mid-1990s 80, a young Scottish player named Stephen Hendry, that was aiming very high, and showed it at the end of the same decade, defeating Steve Davis in two UK Championship finals. Stephen Hendry rose with the number 1 In the season 1990/91 and did not release said post until 1997/98. I would go back to the top in the season 2006/07.

The reign of Wales, England and Scotland, I continue with John Higgins, Mark Williams Y Ronnie O’Sullivan. The famous golden generation that debuted on the circuit in the year 1992. The British trio took the number spot 1 during 11 seasons (5 O’Sullivan – 3 Higgins – 3 Williams).

From the season 2010/11, the world circuit changed the scoring systems. To date, it was only updated at the end of the World Championship, and from that date, an update would be made at the end of each tournament, which led us to have several numbers 1 during the same season.

With the new system we had several numbers 1, some repeated how John Higgins and Mark Williams and others rose to the top for the first time, like the australian player Neil Robertson, Englishmen Mark Selby Y Judd Trump, and the Chinese player Ding Junhui. They were the Chosen to fill the number 1 world. The protagonist of these is the English Mark Selby, who finished the season seven times in first place: between 2010/2011 Y 2017/2018.
