“I do not want to keep having the pressure of being a top snooker”
Ronnie O'Sullivan in Eastern Europe is playing exhibition games before joining Jimmy White as full-time expert in the study of Eurosport for UK Championship. O'Sullivan won the UK title last year with victory 10-9 sobre Judd Trump, but he has not played a competitive match since April. In his latest blog, Kane Desmond tells what he thinks about the future without the stress of competing for titles.
I'm trying different things right now. Anyone who is nearing the end of his career has to think ahead, and that's what I've been doing for the last three or four years. I've been planning what will be my next 15-20 years, and how I wish it were.
It has been difficult at times, but I really feel I have a good idea of what I want. I do not want to keep having the pressure of being a top snooker. I happened to be left to the new generation of players.
Yes I want a place in the sport, and I'm trying to figure out what that site.
Actually it's funny. Currently I'm enjoying my practice more than ever. Now I play for fun. I try to still be the best that I can be.
You adjust the times as I want. My companions and I played a lot during those days.
(…) but I love the challenge. We laugh, I'm always encouraged because you have a lot of possibilities and I have to choose both balls, which it is an advantage.
I know my game is far from where it should be in certain respects. That is natural, since I have not played competitively for over seven months. I need to sharpen my defensive game, but that could be solved with a few competitive games. My long game could also be better, but I still feel good and that's what keeps me. I can do breaks and create opportunities. That's what I love.
I also attended my first session Q&A with fans the other day and it was great, good food, good talk, I told some funny stories and was home in time to watch football.
IN EASTERN EUROPE WITH JIMMY AND STUART
I go to Bulgaria this week to play with Jimmy White, va a ser divertido. I always enjoy travel in Europe. It's a great opportunity to experience different cultures.
Everywhere we go people really made us feel very welcome, and I can not thank you enough for giving me the opportunity to perform and entertain.
It's a two-way street, because without the fans would not be possible.
After Bulgaria traveled to Romania. Two nights playing with the world champion Stuart Bingham in Bucharest. I know people in Romania is very excited about our arrival, and once again it is a great opportunity to play in front of a new audience. It will be my first trip to Romania and I'm excited.
It's great that snooker has gone global. That has allowed players to explore larger areas, and now we know that there are places where they are willing to see the best players playing snooker, and is a great platform to showcase the sport.
So that's all for now. I will give you a report on my travels once it is back.
Ronnie provide expert analysis, with Jimmy White and the host Colin Murray, of the UK Championship (from 28 until November 6 December at the Barbican Centre in York) en Eurosport.
